Six students shortlisted for 2026 RABDF Dairy Student of the Year Award

Six veterinary and agriculture students from across the UK have been shortlisted for the 2026 RABDF Dairy Student of the Year Award, sponsored by ForFarmers, an accolade widely recognised by peers, companies, and prospective employers as highlighting the sector’s rising stars.

This year’s finalists include three final-year students from Harper Adams University: Freddie Myatt from Staffordshire, Henry Gibson from Honiton, Devon, and Ellie McCutcheon from Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Other finalists are fourth-year veterinary student Caitlin Jugg from the University of Surrey, Hannah Davis from Bristol Veterinary School, and Aimee Gegg from Duchy College.

The six finalists were selected from a strong field of entrants, all of whom completed a case study appraisal. They were then invited to an in-person judging day in London, where they gave a 10-minute presentation on where they believe the dairy industry will be in 10 years’ time, identifying the key challenges, scale, and opportunities.

Presentations were followed by a five-minute Q&A with the judging panel, which included RABDF Chairman Robert Craig, Richard Greasley from ForFarmers, and Kaia Hillsmith from Kite, part of the Asterra Group.

Mr Craig said the standard of this year’s students was exceptionally high, making the final decision very difficult:

“The competition has become distinguished across the dairy industry due to the high calibre of students entering each year. The optimism and enthusiasm for the sector are clear from the applicants, and it is encouraging for the industry’s future success. It was great to see students studying a broad range of subjects, from agriculture to veterinary science.”

He added: “Awards like this are vital for the future of the UK dairy industry. They give students the chance to showcase their skills, ideas, and ambition, while also helping employers spot emerging talent. The next generation will shape the industry, and it’s inspiring to see such commitment and passion from these finalists.”

The winner of the 2026 RABDF Dairy Student of the Year Award will be announced at Dairy-Tech 2026 on 4 February at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, where they will receive £750. To find out more about Dairy-Tech and to secure your early-bird discounted ticket, visit www.dairy-tech.uk.
