PROTERNATIVE® – a new probiotic strain for calves

PROTERNATIVE® is Lallemand’s probiotic yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae boulardii CNCM I-1079. PROTERNATIVE® belongs to the boulardii variety of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which has more than 60 years of efficacy and research documentation related to gastrointestinal health in humans and monogastric animals. A proven probiotic, its mode of action is specific to the lower gut.

PROTERNATIVE® provides key components to help balance the gut microbiota, maintain epithelial integrity, and to support natural defences. The result is a calf which is more resilient to common challenges such as digestive, weaning and transport stress.

PROTERNATIVE® can legally be fed to all calves from birth to approximately four months of age in Great Britain. It’s available for inclusion in milk replacer formulas or supplements for addition to milk. PROTERNATIVE® forms part of Lallemand’s extensive youngstock feed additive range designed to help youngstock grow into healthy, productive animals.
