Description

STRIDE is an industry wide not-for-profit initiative, committed to helping improve dairy cow mobility and energise the industry tio act to reduce lameness in the national herd.
The initiative was formed in 2024, with the initial objective to launch a major, nationwide survey to help build a better picture of dairy cow mobility in the UK.
Stride, ran the most comprehensive dairy cow mobility survey that year, which informed the development of an industry report focussed on signposting the challenges and opportunities of how cow mobility can be improved to reduce treatment costs, improve productivity and profitability.
The survey results informed the creation of a series of factsheets and videos to help tackle some of the most prevalent issues affecting cow mobility and foot health in UK dairy herds.
Compromised mobility continues to be one of the top three cattle health and welfare challenges facing UK producers. It impacts herd fertility, productivity, profitability and sustainability.
Losses attributed to poor mobility contribute to the environmental impact of livestock farming.
It is calculated to cost the UK dairy farming industry £250 million per year in treatment costs and lost production.
