A new rapid testing service from PBD Biotech, will enable farmers to find out in days if a bulk milk or blood sample contains MAP; the cause of Johne’s Disease
This wasting disease causes severe economic loss, it is difficult to diagnose and can lie dormant until triggered by stress or another infection.
The service uses the diagnostic test Actiphage® to detect the presence of live MAP in a sample of blood or bulk milk. It enables for the first time: a test for young animals before they show clinical symptoms; a pre-breeding test and pre-movement test.
When combined with good hygiene and removal of infected animals, Actiphage offers the potential to eliminate Johne’s Disease from the herd.
